AHEC Scholars Kicks-Off Third Statewide Cohort

The Michigan AHEC Scholars Program recently launched its third cohort with a total of 67 health professions students from across the state of Michigan. The new AHEC Scholars' cohort includes nursing, medical and social work students from each of the Michigan AHEC regions, including Southeast, Mid-Central, Northern Lower, Western and the Upper Peninsula.

The Michigan AHEC Scholars Program is designed for health professions students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in supplementing their education by gaining additional knowledge and experience in rural or urban underserved communities. It aims to prepare students to enter the health professions workforce by teaching them about health disparities and the role of the community in patient care through interaction with different health specialties. Types of eligible health professions students in the AHEC scholars program are: medical, pharmacy, dental, nursing, physician assistant, public health and social work.
