Nursing Workforce Diversity Pre-Immersion Week 2020

Fourteen freshman WSU Nursing students completed a Nursing Workforce Diversity Pre-Immersion Week from Monday, August 24th through Friday, August 28th. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was held virtually for the first time this year. Throughout the week, students engaged in sessions that enhance their academic success, some of which include: time management, study and test taking skills as well as mentoring sessions with faculty and nursing professionals. Students were able to get to know each other through community building activities each day, as well as multiple sessions with breakout groups to discuss topics further in smaller groups. They also learned how to navigate campus resources, including the Academic Success Center, the library and advising services.

The Nursing Workforce Diversity Program is part of a 4-year HRSA (U.S. Department of Health Resources and Human Services) grant that assists students from disadvantaged backgrounds to become registered nurses. The program also supports increased access to high-quality culturally-aligned registered nurse providers who reflect the diversity of the communities in which they serve.
