The Northern Lower Regional Center is pleased to offer clinical rotations at its host site, MidMichigan Community Health Services. Clinical rotations have resumed following several challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, staffing changes, and a recent implementation of a new electronic health record.

In the past several months, the NLRC has hosted five students. Two Medical Assistant students from Ross Medical completed their externships one at Houghton Lake and the other at the MidMichigan Community Health Services Beaverton location. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student from Saginaw Valley State University completed his clinical rotation at the Substance Use Disorder Clinic at Houghton Lake. A Medical Assistant student from MidMichigan College in Harrison completed her externship at the Beaverton location. Finally, a MidMichigan College Radiology student completed a job shadow experience in Mammography at the Houghton Lake location.

One of the Medical Assistant students was hired as a contingent Medical Assistant in Houghton Lake. Over the course of placing students at MidMichigan Community Health Services, the health center has benefitted from the partnership with AHEC in being able to hire students after their clinical experience.
