Northern Lower Regional Center Hosts Virtual Job Shadow Event
C.O.O.R Career Tech Students Visit Health Center
Thirty students from the C.O.O.R. (Crawford Oscoda Ogemaw Roscommon) Intermediate School District's Medical Occupations program participated in a virtual presentation about federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs) and the jobs offered locally at a health center. They watched interviews with the Radiology, Ultrasound, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health staff and the CEO. In these pre-recorded interviews, healthcare staff provided an overview of the work they do in each of these areas and answered a few questions about the benefits of working in a community health center. Students received informational flyers about healthcare occupations in the areas they virtually toured. They were also presented with gas cards to assist them with transportation expenses during their clinical training for their Certified Nurse Assistant class. In addition to the virtual tour, students received a seat for a website called VirtualJobShadow.com. This website will assist students in creating cover letters, resumes, and goals for their future education and careers. Students will be able to watch videos on skills for interviewing, hard and soft skills and prerecorded job shadows in various careers including healthcare. Students were appreciative of the opportunity to learn about the benefits of working in a community health center.
