News from the Northern Lower Regional Center
The Northern Lower Regional Center recently offered a simulcast of The Region's Health and Health Care Systems: Communities Achieving Excellence and Moving Upstream at the Kirtland Health Science Center in Grayling, MI. This is the 11th annual conference of this type. The conference opportunity was shared with health and human services representatives in the region as well as AHEC Scholars in the Northern Lower Region. Two scholars took advantage of this opportunity. Attending were Cristy Meck of Elmira, and Jarrod Nelson, of Grayling. Both are students in the Kirtland Community College Associate Degree of Nursing program and are first year AHEC Scholars. Northern Lower Regional Center staff were also in attendance. After the conference, the AHEC staff and AHEC Scholars were able to have a round table discussion about the value of the AHEC Scholars program and the social determinants of health affecting Northern Michigan. The topics of conversation focused on the veterans' population and food insecurity.
