Southeast Regional Center Fall Update
Jacob Scholars Pre-Immersion Week Experience 2024
The Southeast Regional Center (SERC) has partnered with the Wayne State College of Nursing for the last six years to host the Jacob Scholars Pre-Immersion Week Experience. This is an experience for a select group of incoming nursing students that have applied to the Direct Admit Pathway Program. The program is designed to help students transition from high school to college.
During pre-immersion week the students are taken on tours to familiarize them with the campus and participate in didactics covering topics including; study skills and time management, emotional intelligence, a day in the life of being a nurse, and a virtual patient experience.
Students also received CPR training from Nursing Detroit, and the nurses spoke to the students about the different possibilities a nursing degree can provide as well as opportunities for entrepreneurship with a nursing degree.
SERC is looking forward to a continued partnership with the Wayne State University College of Nursing as we work toward closing the disparity gap and shortage in the medical field. By providing this hands-on approach we believe it encourages young people to follow their passions and shows them the different steps they are able to take to achieve the education they desire and often feel is so out of reach.
