WMU College of Health and Human Services hosts Health Fair for Grand Rapids Students
Recently, 37 students from East Kentwood Freshman Campus and Innovation Central of Grand Rapids traveled to Kalamazoo and the campus of Western Michigan University (WMU) to experience various health education opportunities offered at WMU. A bonus offering included a CPR session that ended with a CPR Certification for those who participated.
This event was made possible by Maria Roche-Dean, PhD, Assistant Professor at WMU Bronson School of Nursing, in collaboration with Western Regional Community Consortium. The event offered the students from the West Michigan Health Careers Pipeline Program and others from their school to participate in a Health Fair that highlighted health professions and the educational paths available at Western Michigan University. The event was very well received by those who attended with the hope to make the Health Fair an annual event for the pipeline program participants.
Western Michigan Community Consortium Celebrates 2023 AHEC Scholar Graduates
The WRCC joined in the celebration honoring Dr. Christine Maisano, graduate of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, along with the rest of the 2023 cohort of AHEC Scholars on April 27, 2023. The ceremony, held both on-site and virtually, gave the AHEC Scholars an opportunity to complete their final program requirement with a presentation.
Dr. Maisano recently shared her experience with AHEC Scholars. "The AHEC Scholars Program built out my skills for that path through exposure to important concepts in primary and preventive care such as working within interprofessional teams, cultural humility and CLAS standards, and responding to the opioid epidemic,” said Dr. Maisano. Congratulations to all 2023 AHEC Scholars graduates!
