Upper Peninsula Regional Center Hosts Human Trafficking and Trauma Informed Care Conference

The UP Area Health Education Center hosted a Human Trafficking and Trauma Informed Care Conference on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018.  About 200 attendees state-wide attended the conference live or via distance learning to better understand the current issues related to human trafficking.  Physicians, nurses, PAs, social workers, behavioral health specialists, students and others came together to learn about better understanding and screening methods for victims of human trafficking, as well as collaborative efforts and resources to help victims.  A guest speaker from Florida came to speak about her victim/survivor experience and share how health providers can better help victims of trafficking.  Seven sites were on the conference state-wide, including Central Michigan AHEC, Western Regional AHEC and Northern Lower AHEC.
