Muskegon Students Visit MSU College of Human Medicine

Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU CHM) hosted 37 high school students from the Muskegon Area Career Technology Center (MACTC) on November 16, 2017.  These seniors are in their 2nd year of allied health courses at the Career Tech Center with plans to major in health or pre-med programs as freshman in college fall of 2018. Kathy Andrews, Health Science Academy Instructor at the MACTC, coordinated the trip to MSU's Grand Rapids campus through Melissa Ponstein at the Western Michigan Regional Center AHEC. This is the second year they have visited.

Brian Ulrich, MSU CHM Admissions Counselor, provided students with information on the importance of undergraduate studies and clinical experience when applying for medical school.  Current students at the medical school shared information about their backgrounds, undergraduate courses, medical school experiences, and how they financed their education. Medical school students also facilitated three hands-on clinical activities for all of the students.

This is now an annual trip for Kathy Andrew's classes based on the students ranking as their favorite health career field trip.
