AHEC Scholars Enrollment 

The Michigan AHEC Scholars program has kicked off for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are plMichigan AHEC Scholars Logoeased to welcome 86 first-year scholars into Cohort 7. These students represent seven different academic disciplines from Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Lawerence Technological University Physician Assistant Studies, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University School of Social Work, and Western Michigan University School of Medicine.  

AHEC Alumni/Advocate Membership

The AHEC Alumni/Advocates membership community connects individuals who support the mission of Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). Members can include AHEC Scholar alumni, advocates, or both, and may have various roles such as: 

  • Dedicated volunteer preceptors 

  • Community partners who promote AHEC initiatives 

  • AHEC Scholar alumni in leadership positions at healthcare facilities 

  • Legislators who have advocated for AHEC funding 

Regardless of their specific roles, AHEC Alumni/Advocates all share a commitment to improving healthcare for vulnerable populations. Join the AHEC Alumni/Advocate membership, and you can enjoy the following benefits: 

  • Advocacy Opportunities: Attend Advocacy 101 sessions to improve your skills in patient and community health advocacy. You can also apply for a Fly-In trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with legislators and advocate for the AHEC mission. 

  • Continuing Education: Access a variety of Continuing Medical Education (CME) virtual programs designed to meet the needs of underserved populations. 

  • Exclusive E-Newsletter: Receive the AHEC Edge, a bi-monthly newsletter that includes continuing education opportunities, highlights fellow AHEC Alumni/Advocates, and more.

Michigan AHEC 2023-2024 Health Workforce Program Highlight

MI-AHEC has released the Health Workforce Program Highlight for 2023-2024. Some highlights include having over 8,000 participants in AHEC programming, nearly 3,989 students in pipeline/pathways programs with 42% of pipeline students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, and 67% of clinical training taking place in medically underserved communities. We are proud of the work we have completed thus far and will continue to carry out our mission to improve healthcare outcomes in underserved communities.
