Nursing Workforce Diversity Pre-Immersion Week a Success

NWD StudentsSixteen freshman WSU Nursing students recently completed a Nursing Workforce Diversity Pre-Immersion Week this August. Throughout the week, students engaged in sessions that enhance their academic success, some of which include: time management, study and test taking skills as well as mentoring sessions with faculty and nursing professionals. Students toured Children's Hospital and a Covenant Community Care clinic in Detroit. They were also connected to local attractions in Detroit such as museums, a WSU's Farmer's Market and the new QLine. The Nursing Workforce Diversity Program is part of a 4-year HRSA (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) grant assists students from disadvantaged backgrounds to become registered nurses; the program supports increased access to high-quality culturally-aligned registered nurse providers who reflect the diversity of the communities in which they serve.
