WSU Medical Students Take a Rural Medicine Road Trip
This March Wayne State University medical students visited McKenzie Health System in Sandusky, Michigan in coordination with Michigan's Southeast Regional AHEC and the Michigan Center for Rural Health. Students spent the day with President and CEO Dr. Steve Barnett and physicians Dr. James Sams, Dr. Mark English and Dr. Mark Hamed. Presentations from McKenzie's staff focused on the execution and importance of emergency medicine and primary care in rural settings, the healthcare landscape following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and what's it like to live and serve in a place like Sandusky, Michigan.
