Biomedical Career Advancement Program

The Biomedical Career Advancement Program provides high school students with the opportunity to gain the technical skills needed to work in a research lab, obtain hands-on experience and work alongside a senior faculty mentor at Wayne State University. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to rapidly improve their technical skills in a realistic setting outside of the classroom.

Selection Criteria: Rising high school juniors and seniors from Detroit Public Schools Community District interested in biomedical research are encouraged to apply. A committee consisting of representatives from participating institutions will select candidates based on the quality of their application including academic performance, personal statements and letters of recommendation. (Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to apply.)

Students selected for the Biomedical Career Advancement Program will be matched with a senior faculty mentor at Wayne State University and assigned independent research projects. Once a week students will engage in round table discussions to talk about their research, career interests, and gain exposure to various bio-medical professions. Students are required to present a poster presentation at Wayne State University's Annual Research Symposium.

Applications and supplemental documentation are due by 5:00 p.m. on April 28, 2017. Supporting documents must have a post-mark date of April 28, 2017 to be considered. The program will begin on June 24, 2017 and end August 4, 2017.
