Pandemic Causes Northern Lower Regional Center to Change Course
In the midst of pipeline programs being cancelled and job shadows not being scheduled, the Northern Lower Regional Center (NLRC) was forced to look at another option to meet this need. They turned to an on-line platform called Virtual Job Shadow.
Middle school and high school students will use Virtual Job Shadow to experience a behind the scenes virtual visit via videos with real professionals in actual jobs; research colleges, internship and job opportunities across the U.S.; discover and match their interests with compatible careers using various assessment tools; and to meet their career exploration and workforce preparation objectives through the LifePath Career Exploration Course.
The LifePath Career Exploration Course is a standalone, comprehensive career guidance resource designed for high school students and older. The 17-module course supports both student-led, independent study and teacher-directed, classroom use. The LifePath Course is available via the Canvas platform.
The NLRC plans to first pilot the Virtual Job Shadow with 3 5 students immediately and then work with area high school students for broader implementation in mid-July.
