Medical Mentors Pipeline Program
Medical Mentors Pipeline Program
M2P2
In the Medical Mentors Pipeline Program (M2P2) students explore a variety of medical specialties during three, 2 week long rotations while directly interacting with attending physicians, residents and other healthcare providers to gain exposure and a better understanding of what is required in order to become a physician. Admitted students must complete several required assignments and attend didactics over the course of the program that help to build a solid foundation of information that can be used in their quest of becoming physicians.
The Southeast Regional Center partners with Medical Mentors Pipeline Program (M2P2), along with Karmanos Cancer Institute, and Wayne State University School of Medicine to make the experience and program successful.
The (M2P2) program allows future doctors to become immersed in what it takes to pursue the noble profession of medicine. Our enrolled students participate in a two day orientation to prepare them for hospital floor experience. After that, students complete three rotations where they shadow physicians that are two weeks long based on their interests. Previous rotations have included:
- Anesthesia
- Critical care
- General surgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Cardiology
- Trauma surgery
- Pediatrics
- Emergency medicine
- Internal medicine
- OB/GYN
- NICU
- Pathology
- Infectious Disease
- Neurology
- Neuro Surgery
In addition to an exceptional shadowing experience, students attend weekly didactics, and receive academic and career guidance from staff and volunteers.
The program also includes BLS certification (AED & CPR) that lasts for two years, and a trip to the Wayne State University School of Medicine. While at the medical school, students will be introduced to the dean or vice dean of the school, they will interact with the simulation robots, and visit the simulation clinic.
